Increasing Student Stamina and Autonomy Through Writing

Participants will be equipped with strategies to build students' writing stamina, understand the components of the writing rope, support students in using text evidence effectively, and receive resources for immediate classroom application.

This workshop equips educators with strategies to develop students’ writing stamina and foster greater independence in writing tasks. Participants explore the components of the "writing rope"—a model that illustrates the interconnected strands of skilled writing—and how each element contributes to fluent, purposeful writing. Teachers will learn how to scaffold instruction to help students effectively use text evidence and sustain effort through longer, more complex writing assignments. Practical tools, resources, and classroom-ready activities will be shared to ensure immediate implementation and ongoing support for diverse learners.
