Delivering Powerful Learning Experiences

As a result of this work

As a result of this work, educators will be able to align curriculum, instruction, and assessment with the NJSLS-CIS to support students’ development and application of computer science and innovation skills across grade levels and content areas. Participants will leave with approaches for unpacking standards, tracing learning progressions, and connecting computational thinking, problem-solving, and technology’s impact on society to authentic learning experiences.

Workshop Description

This workshop provides a comprehensive examination of the New Jersey Student Learning Standards for Computer Science, Innovation and Society (NJSLS-CIS), with a focus on unpacking the intent and expectations of each standard. Participants will explore the structure and progression of the standards across grade levels, examining key concepts such as computational thinking, problem-solving, data and analysis, networks and systems, and the impact of technology on society. Through interactive activities and collaborative discussions, attendees will analyze how computer science and innovation skills develop over time and connect to real-world applications across content areas. Participants will also consider the implications of the standards for curriculum design, instructional practices, and assessment, ensuring students are prepared to thrive in an increasingly digital and technology-driven world.

Educators will confidently

Educators will confidently translate CSIS standards and K–12 learning progressions into clear instructional expectations and authentic tasks that integrate specialist content with computer science and innovation skills. They will align objectives, activities, and evidence of mastery so students demonstrate learning in both areas. This work supports district priorities by strengthening standards alignment, instructional coherence across grade levels, and meaningful application across content areas.
