More and more, general education teachers are charged with educating students who are newcomers or new English learners.  This workshop will provide teachers with a full understanding of how a second language is acquired.  Descriptors for each of the stages of language proficiency will be explored, and participants will have the opportunity to review case studies of actual students. Video clips will be reviewed to help participants distinguish between the varied levels of ELLs. Finally, participants will consider various factors that set students (and families) up for success in their classrooms.
