Understanding and Unpacking the Mathematics NJSLS

This workshop equips educators with a deep understanding of the revised New Jersey Student Learning Standards in Mathematics (NJSLS-M). Participants will explore the major shifts in the standards, including new mandates and expanded requirements such as climate change integration and data literacy. Through hands-on unpacking protocols, collaborative discussions, and analysis of instructional implications, educators will gain clarity on how these changes will impact classroom instruction across grade levels. The session also supports curriculum planning by addressing challenges, uncovering new opportunities, and aligning instruction with state mandates.

1. Understanding Key Shifts in the Standards
   Participants will learn to identify and interpret the key elements of the NJSLS-M, including domain structures, the emphasis on "accuracy and efficiency" over "fluency," and foundational work in radicals and data analysis across grade bands.
