Supporting Multilingual Learners in the General Education Classroom

This workshop is designed to build the competence and confidence of general education teachers in supporting Multilingual Learners (MLs). Emphasis is placed on setting high academic standards while simultaneously providing strategies that integrate language development with content mastery. Teachers explore instructional methods that ensure classroom instruction is both meaningful and comprehensible for MLs. The session is interactive and equips participants with a “strategies toolkit” they can immediately apply in their classrooms.

1. Integrating Language Development into Core Instruction
   Teachers will learn to design lessons that embed language supports directly into content instruction, ensuring MLs engage meaningfully in grade-level learning.
   
   
2. Applying Multiple Instructional Approaches
   Educators will explore a variety of methods—such as scaffolding, differentiation, and structured collaboration—to meet the diverse needs of MLs in the general education classroom.
   
   
3. Using a Practical Strategies Toolkit
   Participants will leave with a toolkit of strategies they can implement immediately to make instruction comprehensible and equitable for MLs.
