Supporting Multilingual Learners in the General Education Classroom

Participants will improve their competence and confidence in working with multilingual students by learning strategies that integrate language development and academic achievement, ensuring meaningful and comprehensible instruction, and will leave with a "strategies toolkit" for immediate implementation.

This workshop aims to improve teachers’ competence and confidence in working with multilingual students. Focus is placed on establishing high standards for multilingual students, as well as implementing strategies that simultaneously integrate language development, and academic achievement. Teachers will learn methods that ensure classroom instruction is meaningful and comprehensible. This interactive workshop will focus on the need for multiple instructional approaches to support all learners, based on assessment results. Teachers will walk away with a “strategies toolkit” that can be implemented immediately.
