This workshop explores research-based practices for building student motivation and fostering autonomy in science and CTE classrooms. Participants examine how self-determination theory, expectancy-value theory, and classroom culture impact student engagement and achievement. The session highlights the role of autonomy, competence, and relatedness in helping students take ownership of their learning, as well as how intentional language, classroom structures, and opportunities for choice can shift students from compliance to active engagement. Teachers leave with actionable strategies to build resilient, motivated learners who are prepared for success beyond the classroom.
