Strategic Reading Across the Curriculum

Participants will gain cross-discipline reading strategies to enhance student comprehension and engagement with texts, supporting students to master the English Language Arts standards through before, during, and after reading techniques.

This workshop is designed to enhance educators' understanding of how to integrate strategic reading skills across various academic disciplines. Participants will explore standards specifically aimed at non-ELA classrooms, emphasizing the need for discipline-specific reading strategies. Through interactive activities, such as collaborative group tasks and practical reading exercises, educators will gain firsthand experience in applying effective reading techniques. The session also covers how to engage students before, during, and after reading, with targeted strategies like mind-mapping, vocabulary pre-exposure, close reading, and reciprocal teaching methods. Ultimately, this workshop equips teachers with actionable strategies to foster critical reading and deeper comprehension among all learners.
