Literature-Based STEAM Designs

Participants will gain hands-on experience in integrating STEAM engineering principles into their classrooms by constructing physical solutions inspired by literary works, such as outdoor shelters from Jack London’s stories and improved houses for the three little pigs.

In this workshop, literature and engineering collide to create an exciting learning environment. Participants will learn how to blend STEAM engineering concepts into their ELA classes by literally building solutions for literary conflicts. Participants will build outdoor shelters based on Jack London’s short stories and a better house for the three little pigs. This innovative approach to extending literature is sure to inspire students to engage with and think beyond the words on the page.
