This workshop guides educators through the integration of the New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS) for English Language Arts (ELA) into social studies instruction. Participants explore ELA NJSLS, including coding systems. Through hands-on activities and sample strategies, teachers learn how to embed ELA standards into their existing social studies curricula. Emphasis is placed on critical reading, evidence-based writing, and using diverse texts and media to enhance student engagement and interdisciplinary learning.

1. ELA Standards Integration Techniques: Participants will gain practical methods for incorporating ELA reading, writing, and speaking/listening standards into social studies instruction using reading strategies and writing frameworks.

3. Understanding and Applying the ELA NJSLS Structures and Mandates: Educators will understand the structure and content of the ELA standards, including the coding system and mandates, enabling more accurate and effective curriculum planning and implementation.
