Implementing the Workshop Model for Effective Mathematics Instruction

Participants will gain deeper insights into Guided Mathematics, enhance their lesson planning skills with hands-on experience in creating differentiated lessons, and acquire practical strategies for implementing effective center activities in their classrooms.

This workshop continues the training from The Workshop Model for Effective Mathematics by delving deeper into the rationale and structure for implementing a Guided Mathematics program. Participants will review and discuss additional examples of numeracy. Participants will create a whole group lesson using their own resources. They will experience an example of a small group lesson and will work together to differentiate the lesson for on-grade level and advanced students. The second half of the workshop focuses on one of the most important and often challenging aspects of a Guided Mathematics program: center activities. Center activities include self-scoring centers and explicit direction cards containing the directions with an example of the center, the standard(s), objective, and evaluation system. All materials and templates for the math centers will be provided for use in the classroom. Participants are requested to bring their math resources with them to use during the whole group instruction discussion.
