Enhancing Guided Reading: Building Firmer Foundations & Improving Individual Assessment

Participants will gain the ability to effectively implement comprehension strategies in engaging ways, while also conducting individual assessments to enhance student reading skills.

This workshop is designed to deepen educators' understanding of guided reading practices and improve their ability to implement effective, differentiated reading instruction. Participants will analyze comprehension strategies and explore how to deliver them in engaging and accessible ways. The session emphasizes targeted instruction, allowing students to build familiarity and proficiency with individual strategies during reading. Educators will receive focused lesson ideas and practical tools that align with small-group instruction and formative assessment.

Core Needs Addressed

  • Ineffective use of guided reading strategies due to lack of implementation support

  • Over-reliance on whole-group instruction that fails to address diverse reading needs

  • Inconsistent or superficial assessment of students’ reading progress and comprehension

  • Lack of targeted, strategy-based lesson planning for differentiated instruction
