This workshop equips educators with the tools and understanding needed to effectively implement the New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS) for Career Readiness, Life Literacies, and Key Skills across all grade levels. Participants explore the three main areas of the standards: Personal Financial Literacy, Career Awareness and Preparation, and Life Literacies & Key Skills. The session highlights curriculum enhancements, offers practical classroom activities, and encourages meaningful integration of problem-solving, communication, and financial literacy into instruction.

  • Disconnect between academic content and real-world application in career and life readiness.

  • Lack of clear strategies for implementing NJSLS standards in diverse K–12 classrooms.

  • Limited resources and understanding for integrating financial literacy, career planning, and digital citizenship across subjects and grade levels.

Key Learnings

  1. Curriculum Integration with NJSLS
    Educators will learn how to align existing curricula with the NJSLS standards for Career Readiness, including developing interdisciplinary lessons that incorporate financial literacy, career exploration, and key 21st-century skills.

  2. Practical Implementation Strategies
    Participants will gain hands-on strategies and activity examples, such as classroom economies, digital citizenship projects, and financial decision-making simulations, that can be immediately implemented across grade levels to make learning more relevant and engaging.

  3. Resource Navigation and Customization
    Teachers will become familiar with curated tools and platforms and learn how to adapt these for various student populations and classroom settings, ensuring standards are met through meaningful, age-appropriate instruction.
