Aligning Practices with the ELA Standards

Participants identify ways to apply ELA standards to their own curriculum.

This professional development workshop is designed to support educators in understanding and implementing ELA Standards. Participants explore the framework, domain layout that prioritizes foundational language skills. The session models and engages educators in standards-aligned activities across reading, writing, speaking/listening, and language, with emphasis on rigor, clarity, and progression across grade levels. Educators will also examine new expectations around equity, digital literacy, and interdisciplinary connections, and receive resources for immediate classroom application.

Core Needs Addressed

  • Lack of clarity and consistency in interpreting and applying the ELA standards

  • Difficulty aligning current curriculum and instructional practices with standards, particularly regarding rigor and progression

  • Limited strategies and tools for addressing state mandates

Key Learnings

  1. Enhanced Standards Application Across Strands
    Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of ELA standards, including coding and terminology, increased emphasis on analysis and synthesis skills, and alignment strategies. They will learn how to scaffold instruction to support student success.

    Attendees will engage in hands-on exploration of sample activities that align directly with standards, including actionable approaches for immediate classroom use.
