The Science of Reading: An Introduction

Decades worth of research in fields including cognitive science, referred to as the Science of Reading, point to effective strategies for teaching kids how to read.

What is the best approach to teach reading? This question has existed for many years and has been highly debated. Decades worth of research in fields including cognitive science, referred to as the Science of Reading, point to effective strategies for teaching kids how to read. In this workshop, participants will be introduced to the research behind how students learn to read, the science of reading state legislature and be able to discuss the significance and impact on daily instruction. Participants will walk away with an understanding of the differences between balanced literacy and structured literacy and learn how to incorporate elements of structured literacy into their classrooms.
