Participants will consider the what, why, and how of authentic assessment.

This workshop provides an overview of authentic assessment practices. Participants will consider the what, why, and how of authentic assessment. Next, the presenter will explain what it means to conduct assessment FOR learning and how to use authentic formative assessment tools in order to provide multiple and varied assessments throughout any lesson and unit. Several authentic assessment tools will be presented including projects, performances, portfolios, self and peer evaluations, writing, and rubrics. The workshop will end with a description of the process of constructing authentic assessments and where they might want to begin.
