Differentiating for Multilingual Learners

This workshop equips educators with the knowledge and tools necessary to meet the diverse needs of multilingual learners (MLs) in the general education classroom. Participants explore the importance of differentiation in supporting academic achievement and language development. The session includes a deep dive into assessment practices, the use of the "assessment loop," and strategies for delivering tailored feedback. Through instructional videos, real classroom examples, and planning templates, educators develop an actionable plan for integrating differentiation into upcoming lessons.

1. Mastering the Assessment Loop
   Educators will learn how to use formative assessments and student responses to inform immediate instructional adjustments and provide “just right” feedback that supports language development.
   
   
2. Designing Differentiated Lessons
   Participants will explore strategies to modify content, process, and product based on language proficiency, using videos and case studies to see these practices in action.
   
   
3. Creating Actionable Plans for ML Support
   Teachers will leave with a customized lesson plan that includes scaffolded strategies, key vocabulary focus, and structured supports for various levels of English language proficiency.
