Aligning Practices with the Science NJSLS

This workshop provides educators with a comprehensive overview of the revised New Jersey Student Learning Standards for Science (NJSLS-S) across grades K-12. Participants explore the three-dimensional framework of the standards, which integrates Science and Engineering Practices, Disciplinary Core Ideas, and Crosscutting Concepts. The session emphasizes aligning curriculum and instruction with these expectations through hands-on activities, resource exploration, and climate change-focused interdisciplinary applications. Educators engage with grade-level examples and practical tools to integrate the standards into their teaching practices effectively.

1. Understanding Three-Dimensional Science Instruction
   Participants will learn how to apply the NJSLS-S framework, emphasizing the integration of science and engineering practices, core disciplinary ideas, and crosscutting concepts. They will gain clarity on how these components interact to form the performance expectations and how to embed them seamlessly into instruction.
   
   
2. Designing Climate Change-Aligned Instruction Across Grade Bands
   Educators will examine detailed, grade-specific performance expectations related to climate change and learn to design developmentally appropriate investigations, models, and arguments that address these concepts. They will also explore how to make climate science accessible and engaging through real-world problem-solving and cross-content connections.
   
   
3. Utilizing Resources and Sample Activities to Support Implementation
   Participants will gain access to a curated selection of sample lessons, tools, and modeling activities tailored by grade levels. These resources will support them in translating standards into actionable and meaningful learning experiences in the classroom, with a focus on student engagement and evidence-based reasoning.
