The ELA Standards pose many new requirements for teaching concepts of print, the alphabetic principle, and phonics which come together to support students’ abilities to decode. For exceptional learners this can be particularly challenging. Participants will learn the importance of a solid phonemic awareness foundation along with best practices for phonics instructions. Additionally, participants will explore strategies and routines to motivate struggling readers. Instructors will receive many resources that they can use when applying the CCSS Reading Foundation Skills concepts in the classroom.
