The Science of Reading for Leaders Program

At the completion of this comprehensive program, school leaders will gain a deep understanding of the Science of Reading. They will leave with resources, evidence-based practices, and strategies to effectively support their K-2 teachers in implementing the Science of Reading into the classrooms.

What is the best approach to teach reading? This question has existed for many years and has been highly debated. Decades worth of research in fields including cognitive science, referred to as the Science of Reading, point to effective strategies for teaching kids how to read. This workshop dives into that research and makes connections for school leaders as to what the science of reading is, what evidence-based practices look like in teachers' classrooms, and how school leaders can support their teachers. Participants will explore the differences between phonological and phonemic awareness, learn more about word recognition, and discuss how to best support teachers throughout the year with classroom visits, PLC topics, and assessments. Unlike traditional one day workshops, this program includes a mix of asynchronous work, 3 synchronous workshops, and office hours for ongoing and individualized support.
