The Science of Reading: Cracking the Code

Although the research on how children learn to read has been around for several decades, there has been a disconnect in terms of actual practice.  This workshop dives into that science and makes the connection to the WHAT and HOW required to ensure students learn to read.  Participants will explore the difference between phonological awareness and phonics and will review specific sequences in which these skills should be taught.  By identifying key strategies for teaching phonological awareness and phonics, participants will engage in activities that can be easily implemented into instructional routines.
