STEM in the Specialist Classroom

STEM is an instructional approach that should be represented in every classroom. This workshop provides the infrastructure, understanding, resources, and lessons that every physical education, art, music, and world language teacher can employ to integrate STEM into their classrooms. The workshop begins with an understanding of what STEM education involves along with an overview of the Engineering Standards. Next, the presenter will provide specific approaches that participants will apply during the workshop that will provide a firsthand understanding of how to integrate STEM into instruction.

Grades K-12 Visual and Performing Arts Instructors, Physical Education and Health Instructors, World Languages Instructors, Curriculum Specialists, and Administrators

Alternative Assessment Practices for Specialists

This workshop begins with an explanation of what alternative assessments are, along with a rationale for using them in the physical education, art, music, and world language classrooms. Throughout the workshop, participants will explore various methods and tools that can expand their repertoires of assessment practices. While this workshop is interesting and fun to experience, the resources and ideas are imperative to a specialist’s classroom. At the conclusion of the workshop, each participant will present his/her newly developed assessment product.
